Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to;

1. value the integrated nature of effective language arts instruction

2. identify resources and practices for creating a language-rich and print rich environment,

3. argue the process of reading, writing and listening as interactive involving reader, text, and contextual factors,

4. describe the components of a complete literacy program including a print rich environment, reading, small group (e.g. guided) reading, independent reading, creative writing and speaking,

5. explain principles of scientifically-based languages arts research that addresses reading, writing, and speaking components including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

6. apply components of fostering language arts comprehension and metacognition in teaching plans,

7. assemble various methods for classroom measurement for language art instruction especially to allow for differentiation of prior knowledge.
