Basics terms and concepts of curriculum / instructional program; a historical development of English curriculum; curriculum approaches, content, targeted language skills, learning domains and subdomains (subdivisions) of the present day English curriculum; distribution of learning outcomes by grades and limits and their relation with other courses; inter-relationships among English curricula at educational stages from primary and middle to high schools; approaches, methods, techniques, equipment and materials used in implementing English curriculum; testing and assessment approaches; teacher competencies.

Course Objectives: 

The aim of this course is to equip students with the definitions, components of, and approaches to curriculum development in ELT. The course also allows students to conduct an evaluation of a language program’s curriculum and develop a sample ELT curriculum in the light of their gained knowledge.

At the end of this class students will be able to;

1)  Explain definitions and components of curriculum development in ELT,

2)  Identify approaches to curriculum design in ELT,

3)  Develop an ELT curriculum for different levels of students,

4)  Identify appropriate syllabus types for specific goals and objectives,

5)  Conduct an evaluation of a language program’s curriculum,

6)  Discuss current issues of curriculum development in ELT.
