Course Objectives: 

This class aims to discuss the key concepts of curriculum development process as well as the principles of curriculum development. The differences between a syllabus and curriculum will be explored; thus, as the first step students will be designing a needs analysis survey to conduct. The class further aims to explore various curriculum samples of ELT basic education programs from various countries around the world. As a result, students will be preparing a sample modular program for basic ELT programs and finally evaluating the program by selecting and utilizing an appopriate evaluation method.

At the end of this class students will be able to;

  • recognize the key concepts of curriculum development process,
  • discuss the key principles of curriculum development,
  • differentiate the concepts of syllabus and curriculum,
  • design a needs analysis survey for the ELT programs,
  • analyze various curriculum samples of ELT programs,
  • prepare a sample appropriate ELT program as a modul for different level students,
  • evaluate an ELT program by implementing a suitable method.
