Course Objectives: 

The aim of this course is to provide students deep understanding of approaches to curriculum, development of mathematics curricula from past to present, its relations with other disciplines and continuum of the curricula from elementary to high school. By analyzing curriculum elements, students will have a good grasp of knowledge related to middle school mathematics curriculum. 

Course Learning Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Define fundamental concepts of curriculum.
  2. Outline the development f middle school curriulum from past to present.
  3. Analyze the approach, content and skills of current middle school mathematics curriculum.
  4. Identify learning and sub-learning areas; distribution and boundries of learning objectives by grade levels.
  5. Discuss the relationship of mathematics curriculum with other disciplines.
  6. Discuss the relationship of middle school mathematics curriculum with elementary and high school mathematics curriculum.
  7. Interpret methods, techniques, tools and materials used; measurement evaluation approach in the curriculum.
  8. Solicit teacher qualifications expected in the curriculum.
