Course Objectives: 

This course aims to equip students with the background to understand and discuss the broad context within which industrial design operates, hence inspire interest in envisioning potential career options. Familiarisation with the basics of the design concepts, processes and terminology aims to prepare students to evaluate and discuss works of design, and comprehend the position of industrial design in relation to other design disciplines.

 
Course Learning Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of this course, a student will

  1. Describe the definitions and scope of industrial design as a profession in historical and organisational context.
  2. Classify and evaluate works of design using fundamental design terminology.
  3. Recognise design as a process with its corresponding methods and tools.
  4. Distinguish diverse professional career trajectories in industrial design.
  5. Discuss contemporary issues in industrial design.
  6. Identify social and environmental issues, liabilities and ethics in industrial design practice.
