Course Objectives: 

The aim of this course is providing students a valuable information about mathematical content and procedures underlying middle school mathematics. They would understand and apply various methods and techniques for different purposes and types of contents, learn how to plan and implement effective mathematics lessons by integrating concepts and processess of other disciplines, technology and materials and while planning the instruction responding to different needs and styles in a mixed-ability classroom.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Identify key mathematical ideas and related understandings for certain concepts  and procedures
  • Develop strategies to help all students succeed in mathematics
  • Understand how to plan and implement effective mathematics lessons
  • Justify the utilization of available teaching tools and strategies including mathematics manipulatives, technology and concrete materials.
